  FAQ for New Members
Posted by: ~Phoebe Cherry Bomb~ - 08-12-2022, 07:00 AM - Forum: Introduce Yourself! - No Replies

Q: What is the point to MKUnlimited?
A: Please read Our Mission Statement.

Q: What are the rules on MKUnlimited?
A: Please read Our Ruleset.

Q: What features does MKUnlimited have?
A: You can view our full list of features in this thread.

Q: What is Pulsar?
A: Pulsar is a new modding framework like LE-CODDE, but open source and expandable. We will be using this framework for our own MKUL modding distribution.

Q: If my clan registers as a Main on MKUnlimited, do I have to leave my other clans that aren't registered?
A: MKUnlimited will not recognize other clans you're in as Main Clans. The only clans we recognize as Main Clans are ones registered with us. For clans that are registered with us, you will not be allowed to register for more than 2 RT clans with timezones 3+ hours apart & 1 CT clan OR 1 Mixed clan & 1 RT or CT clan.

Q: Can my clan play GSC and still be registered to MKUnlimited?
A: MKUnlimited isn't concerned with affairs unrelated to our site. You are free to play whichever leagues you wish and remain involved with us; just understand that we will only adjust our events for those who play in outside competitions, to a limited capacity (significant matches and casting). Schedule accordingly.

Q: Can I share my league on MKUnlimited?
A: Leagues officially endorsed by us will be at the top of the site, but everyone is allowed to promote their league in a thread in this section.

Q: If I want to make a Sub-Clan, where do I put it?
A: MKUnlimited doesn't support Sub-Clans. You may submit your server link to our Sub-Clan Server Directory, but we will not be allowing Sub-Clans to come directly to our site in any capacity. If you want to make a Sub-Clan with a theme to it, make a Themed Clan in the Themed Clans section.

Q: Are you going to have a Lounge of your own?
A: MKUnlimited has no plans to host a Lounge. We believe the current Lounges are sufficient for the solo-queue format (which we will not be prioritizing). Instead, we may host tournaments for variety formats with a weekly event circulation.

  Our Mission with Clanning
Posted by: ~Phoebe Cherry Bomb~ - 08-12-2022, 06:03 AM - Forum: Site Information - Replies (1)

The current way the community handles clanning (no measures in place to keep track of what clans a member is a part of) has resulted in focusing on individualism among clan members over collectivism as a whole clan. Lounge has not helped in this regard, with solo-queue effectively eclipsing the activity of non-league clan wars (or scrimmages). New players to the current community see two areas: Mogi Lounge and Grand Star Cup. Usually, they see Mogi Lounge first. The way Lounge uses tags of deceased clans and people looking for multiple clans in the recruitment area has given the impression that multiclanning is in no way a bad thing. As for Grand Star Cup, it has contributed to the idea that the only time multiclanning shouldn't happen is in leagues, which we believe to be absolutely false.

Multiclanning is why collectivism, clan loyalty, clan identity, clan pride, and clan activity have started to die out (especially outside of a league setting). The only time a clan has a distinct roster that can form a solid basis of identity for them, is during leagues. Outside of leagues (with few exceptions--namely high division clans) a lot of clans are revolving doors for who can war. While many people are growing up and starting to have lives, this still undoubtedly creates a situation where availability is an issue. If your clan has to constantly cycle members because they go prioritize other places, then it's not going to last very long. Members going to several other places is the primary side-effect of letting multiclanning become so prevalent.

We want to cultivate a healthy clan scene on MKUnlimited, with no multiclanning issues or ambiguity over what the different clans are and what they mean. A label means nothing if there's no solid definition and structure behind it to back it up. We want varied activity and not just league matches or 5v5s, and we believe having distinct clan types will encourage this. We want to see a resurgence of scrimmages and other war sizes/formats. We believe a healthy clan scene consists of the following:

  • Stability (members in clans rarely change)
  • Longevity (clans stick around for a long time)
  • Notoriety (clan names have long histories and stories behind them)
  • Purpose (clans have a reason to show off what they have accomplished and who they are)
  • Variety (the scene evolves the metagame through format experimentation or keeps members engaged with alternative forms of play)
And we believe a clan that will be remembered for decades has the following:
  • Collectivism (synergy among members)
  • Loyalty (members stick around)
  • Identity (memorable imagery, matches are a conversation starter, makes a place in history)
  • Pride (acknowledges its achievements, markets itself, gains an audience)
  • Activity (frequent wars, loose preferences when seeking matches)
We believe these values will be restored with the right system.

So, how does MKUnlimited plan to handle this?

First of all, we are going to redefine the different clan types and the rules associated with them. We are also going to be prohibiting certain clan types from being on our site. These can still be promoted via server link, but no other methods. Below are the following clan types, their definition, and the associated rules that we plan on having for MKUnlimited:

Everything presented in this infographic is also listed individually with extra details, within a sticky'd thread for each respective clan type's forum section!

As you can see, we have made a lot of changes. Many of these concepts existed on the vBulletin version of MarioKartWii.com and we're just bringing them back in our own way, but a couple are also brand new. For people who entered the community in 2016 or later, all of this will seem new to you. Below is a summary about the changes:

Show ContentHistorical vs. Current Change Summary (if you only care about the structure, skip this spoiler):

Secondly, we will do as Mario Kart Central has done. We are going to have a robust registry for every member of the forum who creates and joins a clan. We will have limits depending on the clan types that are joined (as defined above). This will serve two purposes: a way to keep track of which clans are interested in our community and what we have to offer, and a way to uphold the integrity of our clan structure.

Thirdly, we are starting over keeping track of clan names and tags. With how much history was lost and how widespread multiclanning became, clan tags and names became a dime a dozen. The only way to combat this is to start fresh, within reason (juggernauts in the history books like Imperious for example, will still be protected). Clans that reach Veteran will have their identity preserved permanently, giving more value to names and tags than we've ever had previously.

Lastly, the clan structure we have composed will remain static and unchanging, except for EXTREME scenarios (such as having to remove a type of clan from the site). We want a rock-solid foundation for clanning going forward. and for that to happen our definitions have to be rigid and firm. Too often older communities would change the definitions of things, leading to confusion and compromising the integrity of the entire system they have. We will not let this happen here and intend on providing the best clan scene possible for our members.

On behalf of all the staff, we wish you all the Best of Luck and Happy Clanning!

Mario Kart Unlimited Clan Structure - Cliques

These are former Main Clans or branch-offs of former Main Clans that have lasted a long time but are no longer interested in active competition. Usually tight-knit friend groups.
  • Once a Main Clan becomes a Clique, it still remains on the Registry. However, it is not listed in the Clan Directory.
  • Due to the nature of Cliques, there is a hard cap of 10 roster changes per year.
  • Leaders of Cliques can play wars but cannot record them in their thread.
  • There is no limit to how many Cliques can be created or joined. Realistically, members will stick with their friends anyway.
  • Cliques can become a main clan again if they have 10 wars in 30 days (must present proof of these wars to staff) and less than 5 roster changes in 100 days.

  Themed Clan Structure
Posted by: ~Phoebe Cherry Bomb~ - 08-11-2022, 08:58 PM - Forum: Themed Clans - No Replies

Mario Kart Unlimited Clan Structure - Themed Clans

The original name for these was Sub-Clans but these turned into carbon copies of Main Clans anyway but in a way that "justified" multiclanning. For this reason, we have renamed them to reflect their original intention: non-conventional war formats.
  • Every clan under this label must consist of some kind of non-conventional theme. Carbon copies of main clans will not be approved. Examples include: karts only, outside drift bikes only, and underused characters. Something less common than these would be 8 race wars. These are just our examples; you can literally make a group of anything that is underplayed or niche.
  • Leaders are allowed to create up to 3 Themed Clans at a time. Ask staff if you would like to trade out 1 or more threads for another.
  • Leaders may not register Themed Clans to Leagues unless they are leagues for that particular theme.
  • Leaders may elect to have a record, war count, or tables on their thread. This is entirely up to them.
  • Leaders may not transition their Themed Clan into a Main Clan. Instead, they can change the theme their clan is based around.
  • Members have no limit on the amount of Themed Clans they can join.

Mario Kart Unlimited Clan Structure - Veteran Clans

These are exactly like Main Clans except they have proven their stability and prestige.
  • Veteran clan names and tags are immortalized and can never be taken by another if the clan dies. Main Clans can become Veteran Clans after 1 year of being alive with less than 10 roster changes within that time period.
  • Leaders cannot create threads. Threads can only be moved to this section by moderators after the above criteria is met.
  • Veteran Clans are treated exactly the same as Main Clans when it comes to the rules associated with them.

Mario Kart Unlimited Clan Structure - Main Clans

These are your primary groups for competitive wars.
  • Leaders must apply to join the Clan Leaders usergroup, which moderators will approve requests.
  • During the first 2 months after we launch, anyone with an Entry Year of 2020 or earlier can join the usergroup.
  • Leaders who create a main clan must have a war record or war count and post tables. Tables can be direct links or screenshots of table text channels in clan servers and must contain the member names that are on the clan thread.
  • Leaders are limited to creating 1 Mixed Track clan OR 1 Regular Track + 1 Custom Track clan.
  • Leaders must register all members they add to a clan whenever they create theirs on MKUnlimited.
  • Leaders are limited to a hard cap of 30 members per clan. The minimum amount of members to create a clan is 6 members (this will not be the same minimum for joining leagues).
  • Members are limited to either 3 Main Clans: 2 Regular Track clans (2 different timezones) and 1 Custom Track clan or 2 Main Clans: 1 Mixed Track Clan and 1 Regular Track or Custom Track Clan.
  • Non-members may be added as Socials. There is no limit to the amount of Socials and they do not have to be registered. Socials cannot play wars, but may participate in other clan events (ex: worldwide raids or in-clan wars).
  • Allies are not permitted. Should someone want to play for a different clan during a league season, they have to transfer on the site clan registry. No exceptions.

  Our Mission
Posted by: ~Phoebe Cherry Bomb~ - 07-29-2022, 04:14 AM - Forum: Site Information - No Replies

Our mission at Mario Kart Unlimited (MKUnlimited/MKUL) is to provide an environment in which Mario Kart Wii (MKW) players are not forced into the established conventions of the current community. There are no limitations here except for not reinforcing the limitations of the current community. If people want to play a different format, we find a way (within reason) to make it happen and make it accessible. This concept of removing limitations for players is precisely why we chose the name Mario Kart Unlimited.

Some examples of what we champion here versus what the current community has been rallying around for years include the following:

- Multi-Platform: Instead of forcing everyone who joins MKUnlimited to have a Discord account, we will provide spaces for multiple different chat programs (once they have all the features we need). We respect autonomy, privacy, and personal preference when it comes to the applications people put on their computer. We have created a thread that lists multiple different chat programs members can utilize. If a program you use is not listed and becomes popular with our community, we may consider creating a MKUnlimited space there.

- Multi-Format: Instead of forcing everyone into a small selection of popular formats, we provide a way for players to participate in formats they would normally never get a chance to play in, unless they go through content creator paywalls (ex: playing distributions other than CTGP Revolution [CTGP-R] and non-meta character/vehicle combinations). We are strongly against any form of a paywall behind a preferred way of playing the game. In addition, we believe that the current conventional formats create a situation in which there is a barrier to entry for new players (needing a bagger to have a clan) as well as hindering a player's potential (slave bagging instead of learning how to run). One way we believe this can be solved is through the normalization of No Lapping (Japanese style) and All Run.

- Expanded Demographics: Instead of forcing everyone to pick one side of the community (ex: Lounge and Grand Star Cup for competitive and Troy's and Bean's servers for casual), we provide ways in which both types of players can participate in MKUnlimited. For example, Mario Kart Boards (the deprecated base for the current community) had League Teams and Clans. Both of these types of clans are tailored around competitive formats. Here at MKUnlimited we are bringing back the concept of Communities. MarioKartWii.com (the vBulletin forum, not Vega's code repository) had this before it went down under. Communities are groups that do not play wars, but instead play funrooms and worldwides. Our goal with Communities is for casual players to find friends to play with without having to subscribe to content creators (going through paywalls).

- Return to Form: We know that plenty of the community has moved on from forums and we respect that. However, we also acknowledge that there are still members who might still want a forum to be available. These members might have hailed from the age-old vBulletin version of MarioKartWii.com and miss those days. While we absolutely cannot recreate the atmosphere that site had (mainly regarding the very large userbase), we can provide something similar. Our site has nearly every single feature from MarioKartWii.com, just executed in a different way. In addition to that, we also have features from old versions of Mario Kart Boards that members might be familiar with. Four examples of such are Item Ranks for Post Count, the Reputation System, GFX Shops, and Forum Games.

- Completely Revamping How Clans Work: The current way the community handles clans allows for priority being on individualism of clan members instead of a focus on collectivism as a whole clan, leading to clans dying much faster and having less value than in the past. In addition, another negative effect is a lot of clans do not persist with activity during league off-seasons. We plan on restructuring clan definitions and rules in order to fix this. We have created a separate thread detailing our entire stance and plan regarding clans. Please read it if you are going to be involved with clans within MKUnlimited.

- Prioritizing Trust and Accessibility over Security: While cheat-free MKW is amazing, it has limited the amount of options for players who cannot run CTGP-R. We are looking to put our focus on a distribution that is accessible for all players. For this reason, we are putting our resources and attention into our own distribution that utilizes the modding framework Pulsar. In addition to this, we will be resetting all lists regarding cheating and starting a new leaf. Our majority of competitions will be based moreso around the Trust System instead of Anti-Cheat Security. We will still have prominent events with Anti-Cheat Security but we are not going to make that an end-all, be-all for players who join MKUnlimited.

- Innovation: With unlimited ways to play also comes various forms of shaking the mold, and here is where MKUnlimited will focus its attention to innovate. Instead of forcing everyone to adapt to lag, we are going to provide a way for players to have an environment with less latency, through the use of HDR, LAN, and other methods in which to reduce lag (such as pushing the development of server-client infrastructure). Other ways in which we plan to innovate include crowdfunding development of key game features and changes (for primarily our distrubtion but also CTGP-R) and curating our own custom track distribution for improved competitive play. We are also going to use a more air-tight security method against alternate profiles and consoles. Lastly, as stated previously we will have a focus on being a multi-format and multi-platform community.

What we are NOT setting out to do:

- Competing with Current Community Platforms: MKUnlimited does not champion the conventions of the current community (such as mogi and suicide bagging wars being the only options for competitive, and content creators or worldwides being the only options for casual play). Thus, any platform the current community decides to rally around (such as Mario Kart Central) is of no concern to us. They have different goals from us, and should members of our community want to participate in these conventions, they are more than welcome to.

- Policing the Community: The staff at MKUnlimited do not believe in strong intervention for drama between members to save face. Instead, we believe in a safe environment for members. The only time MKUnlimited staff will take action is if the behavior compromises the integrity of our website, servers, and events. We do not believe in members acting on another member's behalf unless the matter is of extreme importance. We will, however, take reports from any directly targeted member of the community very seriously. In addition, players who have been caught in extremely serious actions against someone in the community (predatory behavior, pedo/hebephilia, doxing, DDoS'ing, distributing viruses, etc.) will still be banned from participating on our platform.

- Taking a Huge Financial Hit for No Tangible Benefit: Other sites have purchased forum software packages, web hosting, domain names, and server infrastructure that has costed several hundreds if not thousands of dollars, and inability to maintain it has caused the community to lose extremely valuable treasure troves of history and content. Whether it's over greed, lack of motivation to keep a site alive, errors in code or databases, or financial concerns, it has all ended in the same way: history is lost. We are tired of this recurring trend, and that is precisely why we chose a free forum host. The only things that would be at a premium for us are removing advertisements, a custom domain name, and some additional features. Should we fail to renew the domain, the forum is not lost. It just goes back to its free URL. We chose a platform that has been around for 20 years with a plethora of features that are recognizable from MKW websites of old. We're setting out to build something that will last regardless.

- Acquiring Monetary Gains: Previous sites used premium forum software packages and infrastructure, relied on analytics such as clicks and web traffic for a site's worth, and donations and subscription packages for a revenue stream to either keep the site going or provide new things for the community. While we cannot expand on our feature-set, we still can provide events and content for the community with the tools we already have at our disposal. We are not looking for any financial gain at all from this. We will never ask our members for donations but they are more than welcome to donate to MKUnlimited if they feel obliged. We are simply providing a space for players to escape the restrictive conventions of the current community. That's all there is to it.

Alright here is something that I've been working for the past year but have recently picked up again and finally finished.
This is a pack of modified tracks to start you before a shortcut/strat. This means instead of tediously restarting and driving to that area you start there automatically. Also, if you fall off, it starts you back before the shortcut so that you do not have to drive backward and try again.
This pack is useful for both competitive and casual players since it has shortcuts and strats that both casual and competitive players should be able to do.

How to Install
All that you have to do is put the szs files in the My Stuff folder of CTGP
After that, fully enable my stuff in the CTGP menu so it say "ON"
Make sure that you turn my stuff to "OFF" or "No Replaced Tracks" if you plan on going online
